Enrique highlights difficulty in playing Lorient

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has acknowledged the difficulty his team had in playing Lorient in Saturday’s 2-2 Ligue 1 draw.

Ibrahim Mbaye put the Parisians in front in the sixth minute but it was short-lived as Pablo Pagis equalised for the visitors six minutes later.

Warren Zaire-Emery put PSG 2-1 in the 62nd minute but Lorient levelled again, this time via Tosin Aiyegun in the 78th minute.

Enrique, reacting to the result, believed his team deserved to win, but will have to accept the draw and move on.

“All matches are difficult, but first of all I’d like to highlight the performance from Lorient,” the Spaniard said.

“They are a team that tries to play, a very courageous team. I’d like to congratulate the coach and his side, it was tough. I think it’s a match we would have deserved to win. We created enough chances to win it, but we hit the woodwork twice.

“We have to accept it, it’s a shame because we needed those three points. It’s an opportunity that opens up for Lens, and we’ll see how they get on.”

Meanwhile, Senny Mayulu, who played the entire 90 minutes at Stade du Moustoir, is looking ahead to Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg with Bayern Munich.

“It was a tough match and we pushed a lot at the end, but we weren’t able to score. We will take the positives and go into Wednesday with our heads held high,” he stated.

PSG set unwanted record

The Parisians have recorded their first winless season against Lorient since the 2010-11 campaign, and have won only one of their last five Ligue 1 matches against the Brittany outfit (D3 L1).

Les Merlus are also unbeaten in their last three away league games against the French capital side (W1 D2).
