Defeating RC Lens in the rescheduled match from Ligue 1’s 29th round, Paris Saint-Germain have officially secured their French championship title.
Far from being outclassed, and creating the best chances of the match, but coming up against an imperious Matvey Safonov, Lens nevertheless succumbed to a defensive error by Malang Sarr, which was immediately punished by Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Georgian, scoring his eighth goal of the Ligue 1 season, was the first goalscorer of the match. Ibrahim Mbaye, who came on as a substitute, sealed the victory for Les Rouge et Bleu in stoppage time. Ousmane Dembélé, who was named Player of the Season at the UNFP Awards ceremony, got in on the action with an assist.
This fifth consecutive title crowns another season of dominance for Luis Enrique’s men, who could add yet another trophy to their collection should they beat Arsenal in the Champions League final on 30th May in Budapest.
Coronated after 33 matches, the Parisians have faced tougher competition than last season, when they secured the title on the evening of the 28th matchday following a 1-0 win over SCO Angers.
With this 14th French league title, PSG have further cemented their status as the most successful club in the history of the top flight of French football, with three more trophies than AS Saint-Étienne.
