PSG set up Champions League final showdown with Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain will face Arsenal in the final of the UEFA Champions League following their 1-1 draw and 6-5 aggregate win over Bayern Munich.

Luis Enrique’s men recorded an epic 5-4 win in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, which became the highest scoreline in a Champions League semi-final.

The French capital club wasted no time in extending their lead in the return leg at the Allianz Arena as current Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembele rifled a volley past Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after he was nicely set up by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

There were shouts by Bayern players to have Nuno Mendes sent off for a second yellow card for a handball but referee Joao Pinheiro waved those calls away.

There was bother shout for a penalty after Joao Neves handled the ball in the box but it was once again discarded, much to the displeasure of Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany.

Neves was close to doubling PSG’s lead in the 34th minute with a header from a pinpoint cross but his effort was saved by Neuer.

Jamal Musiala had an opportunity to score for Bayern in the 44th minute after he made his way past two PSG defenders, his shot was however kept out by Matvey Safonov.

PSG resumed the second half keen to extend their lead and had superb efforts by Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue in the 57th and 64th minute respectively.

Bayern had opportunities from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise not long after, but PSG goalie Safonov was alert to gather them.

The German side finally equalised deep in added time after Harry Kane received the ball from Alphonso Davies and fired into the top corner of the net.

The Parisians ultimately held firm to make them the first French team to reach back-to-back Champions League finals.

A date with Arsenal in Budapest

PSG will battle the Gunners at Pukas Arena in the final on May 30. Both sides met in the semi-finals last season, with the French team thumping the English side 3-1 on aggregate.

They will also be aiming to become only the second team since 1992 to win consecutive Champions League titles after Real Madrid.
