Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos says his team have taken lessons from Sunday’s Ligue 1 season-ending defeat to neighbours Paris FC.
PSG secured a record-extending 14th Ligue 1 title with a 2-0 win at RC Lens last week. Despite this feat, manager Enrique was disappointed with the 2-1 loss to Paris FC.
It was the second time the newly-promoted side had beaten them having knocked them out of the Coupe de France in the found of 32.
PSG will now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal next Saturday in Budapest, and Marquinhos wants his team to stay motivated.
“…There are still things we need to work on; we mustn’t let our morale or our energy drop now,” the Brazilian said.
“We have a very important objective in two weeks’ time, and we’ll see what the manager has to say. He’ll give us a telling-off, that’s for sure, because in terms of performance, commitment and the final result, there are lessons to be learnt from this match.
“But we’ve still got an exciting end to the season ahead, and even though we lost, we still have a great goal to go for.
“As I said, our energy needs to be better over the next two weeks. We’ll use these two weeks of training to get motivated, to go out and win that final title and realise our dream of securing that second Champions League star.”
Marquinhos stands tall above other French clubs
The 31-year-old has been crowned Ligue 1 champion 11 times since his arrival from AS Roma in 2013. That is more titles than than the next most successful French clubs Saint-Etienne (10) and Olympique Marseille (9).
He also helped in keeping 18 clean sheets, which is PSGs best record in a 38-game season after the 2020-21 campaign with 19 clean sheets.
