Lucas Chevalier to be out for several weeks, with World Cup participation in jeopardy

Having suffered an injury to his right thigh in training, Lucas Chevalier will be out of action for several weeks, Paris Saint-Germain announced on Wednesday. Like his teammate Achraf Hakimi, the 24-year-old goalkeeper will therefore miss next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich.

Another blow for the former Lille player, whose first season at PSG is turning into a nightmare. Relegated to the bench by Matvey Safonov, Chevalier has not played a single minute of football for over three months now. His last appearance on the pitch was on 23 January, against AJ Auxerre (0-1).

With just two weeks to go before Didier Deschamps announces the squad for the 2026 World Cup (11 June – 18 July), the Calais-born international’s place in the French team is increasingly under threat.

“I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. That’s something to think about after this training camp. I’m not putting any pressure on Luis Enrique – quite the opposite. We’ll see how things develop…,” Deschamps said last March, during an international break when he decided to call up Chevalier despite his limited playing time.
