‘He thought it was the Champions League’ – Luis Enrique heaps praise on Kvicha Kvaratskhelia after his performance against Nantes

Author of a brace yesterday to help Paris Saint-Germain beat FC Nantes 3-0 in a rescheduled match from the 26th round of Ligue 1, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia (25) has once again demonstrated how he is enjoying one of his finest spells since arriving in France in the winter of 2025.

Which is obviously no bad thing for Luis Enrique, who, after the match, was in a playful mood when assessing the Georgian winger’s performance. “He thought it was the Champions League,” quipped the Spanish manager, before adopting a more fatherly tone. “More seriously, it’s at times like these that you see the calibre of the players. Kvara is a top-class player all year round. This is evident not only in his technical ability but also in the character he shows in a match, in the way he defends and conducts himself.”

Somewhat discreet at the start of the season, Kvaratskhelia has, for several weeks now, established himself as the Parisians’ main attacking threat. For not only is the Tbilisi-born player consistently decisive – he has now scored seven goals and provided three assists in his last 10 matches for the Red and Blues – but he also exudes a confidence that rubs off on his teammates.

A welcome return to form for PSG, who will undoubtedly be counting on the former Napoli player, on whom much of the club’s hopes of reaching the Champions League final rest. Who knows, perhaps they might even add a second consecutive title to their trophy cabinet.

matchday.
