Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has congratulated to the club on winning a record-extending 14th Ligue 1 title after defeating RC Lens 2-0 away from home on Wednesday.
It also saw the French capital outfit win a fifth title in a row for the very first time in their history, which is only bettered by Olympique Lyon’s seven consecutive titles between 2002 and 2008.
Twelve of PSG’s 14 league titles have come under the control of Al-Khelaifi’s Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) company. They have won won the Coupe de France eight times, the Coupe de la Ligue six times, the Trophee des Champions 12 times.
The crown jewel is the UEFA Champions League which they won last year and will be defending against Arsenal in Budapest on May 30.
“We’re very proud of this 14th French league title, which, for the first time in the club’s history, is our fifth in a row,” Al-Khelaifi said in his congratulatory message on the club website.
“Congratulations to the players, to Luis Enrique, to Luís Campos and to all of the backroom staff for the exceptional job that they have done.
“This success is the result both of a top-notch team effort from everyone at Paris Saint-Germain and of the strength of our academy, particularly with five young players making their professional debuts.
“At Paris Saint-Germain, the real star is the team, supported by our amazing fans everywhere we go. Our focus is now fully on our upcoming assignment in Budapest, with even more work to be done as we continue to make history together.”
