PSG Transfer Deadline Day: Barcola and Mbaye Exits Take Paris Past €340m in Sales

PSG transfer deadline day arrives with Paris Saint-Germain having already done the hard part. The summer window shuts today, and the two departures that have shaped the entire Parisian window — Bradley Barcola to Liverpool and Ibrahim Mbaye to Aston Villa — were both reported to have reached the medical stage over the weekend.

If both are ratified, Paris will have sold somewhere north of €340m of football this summer while remaining the reigning European champions. That is a remarkable piece of business by any measure, and it is worth laying out exactly where Les Parisiens stand as the clock runs down.

Barcola to Liverpool: the record that redefines PSG’s summer

The Barcola saga has run since June, and it appears to have reached its end. PSG Talk reported on Sunday that the 23-year-old winger had travelled to Merseyside to complete his medical and sign a five-year contract, with journalist Fabrice Hawkins putting the total value of the deal at a reported €145m including add-ons. Fabrizio Romano has since given the move his customary “here we go”.

That figure has crept upwards throughout the negotiation. When we reported that Barcola’s medical had been scheduled, the number in circulation was €140m; the agreed deal before that was reported at a club-record £120m. Add-ons account for the difference, and it should be said plainly that nothing is official until Liverpool and Paris say so.

What is not in doubt is the scale of it. Barcola arrived from Lyon in 2023 as a raw, quick, occasionally infuriating winger and leaves as one of the most expensive players in the history of the French game. He had been left out of the squad for the Ligue 1 opener at Rennes and did not feature at Lille either, which told its own story.

Ibrahim Mbaye: the academy graduate priced like a finished article

The second exit is, in some ways, the more striking one. Ibrahim Mbaye is 18. He joined PSG in 2018 as a child, came through the club’s youth structure and made 42 first-team appearances for the reigning French and European champions. He is now, per the reported terms, worth €55m to Aston Villa.

PSG Talk reported on Sunday that Mbaye had completed the second part of his medical and was expected to sign his contract that day, following the five-year deal he had already agreed with the Villa Park club. Liverpool had also been credited with interest in the Senegal international earlier in the window.

His raw numbers — three goals and two assists in Ligue 1 last season, and appearances in only four of PSG’s 17 Champions League matches — do not obviously justify €55m. What justifies it is age, ceiling and the market’s current appetite for teenagers with elite-level minutes already on their record. Paris have been on the buying side of that equation often enough to recognise a good sale when one arrives.

PSG transfer deadline day: the full sales ledger

Set out end to end, the outgoing column is extraordinary for a club that won the Champions League in May.

  • Gonçalo Ramos to AC Milan — a reported €74m
  • Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus, permanently — a reported €38m
  • Lee Kang-in to Atlético Madrid — a reported €35m
  • Bradley Barcola to Liverpool — a reported €145m including add-ons, pending confirmation
  • Ibrahim Mbaye to Aston Villa — a reported €55m, pending confirmation

That is roughly €347m in reported fees, before the youth and loan movement — Gabriel Moscardo, Renato Marin and Ismael El Hannach among those to have gone out. Whatever else can be said about the Qatari ownership’s approach in 2026, the accusation that Paris cannot sell no longer survives contact with the evidence.

And what they have bought

Rather less, which is the point. The incoming column reads: Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco for a reported €50m, Ferran Torres from Barcelona for €48.5m, Mika Godts from Ajax for around €45m, Lucas Digne back from Aston Villa for roughly €7m, and Alessandro Longoni on a free transfer.

Around €150m out against €347m in. Luis Enrique has replaced volume with fit: Torres is a genuine centre-forward in a squad that had been running without one since Ramos left, Akliouche is a creator who can play across the front line and in midfield, and Godts is a direct left-sided winger of the type Barcola’s departure removes. You can see the shape of the thinking in the 2026/27 first-team list: fewer bodies, more specific profiles.

One more enquiry — but not for today

There is one further name worth flagging, and it comes with an important caveat. Get French Football News, citing Foot Mercato, reports that Paris have made enquiries about the terms of a potential move for Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot — but that no bid is expected before the window shuts, with January the more realistic date.

Canvot is 20, Argenteuil-born, and joined Palace from Toulouse last summer in a deal valued at €23m. He made 36 appearances across all competitions in his first English season, is contracted until 2029 and is currently valued at around €30m. We covered the initial enquiry on Monday night. Treat it as a marker laid down for the winter rather than a deadline-day story.

What it means for the team on the pitch

Selling Barcola and Mbaye on the same weekend removes two attacking options from a squad that has started the season with two draws. Paris drew 2-2 away at Rennes on the opening weekend and then 2-2 at Lille, a game they trailed until the closing stages before Vitinha curled in a left-footed equaliser of real quality and then crossed for Marquinhos to head the second.

Two points from six is not a crisis — Paris have made a habit of starting Ligue 1 campaigns slowly and finishing them with the trophy — but it is a reminder that this side is still assembling itself. Ousmane Dembélé was absent at Lille after being given several days away from training following a long summer, and was reported by PSG Talk to have returned to work on Monday afternoon.

The front line that remains is still, on paper, among the best in Europe: Dembélé, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué either side of him, Torres through the middle, and Akliouche and Godts as the new options. Depth is thinner than it was in May. Quality, arguably, is not.

The next fortnight

Paris travel to face Monaco on 4 September, a fixture that now carries the additional subplot of Akliouche facing the club he left this summer. Then comes the part that actually defines the season: the Champions League league phase, which begins at the Parc des Princes on 9 September with Paris as back-to-back holders attempting something no club has managed in the current format.

By then the window will be shut, the sales banked and the squad list final. Whatever the accounting says, the football answer to this summer will be delivered on the pitch between now and May — and on the evidence of two 2-2 draws, Luis Enrique has work to do.
