PSG Season Preview 2026-27: Chasing a Third Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain begin 2026-27 as the best team in Europe — and with a target on their back to match. Back-to-back Champions League crowns, the second sealed on penalties against Arsenal, plus a Ligue 1 title and the 2024-25 sextuple have redrawn expectations at the Parc des Princes. This season preview asks the only question that now matters in Paris: can Luis Enrique’s side make it three European titles in a row?

The early signs have been humbling. Paris opened pre-season with a chastening 3-0 defeat to Mallorca, a result Luis Enrique waved away as fitness work but one that was a reminder nobody stays untouchable forever. The foundations, though, remain the envy of the continent.

The squad behind the season preview

The spine is elite and, crucially, young. Vitinha, João Neves and Fabián Ruiz form one of the game’s best midfields; captain Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes anchor the defence; and up front Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia and Doué give Paris firepower few can live with. In goal, Lucas Chevalier is established as first choice with Matvey Safonov for competition.

The summer has added rather than rebuilt. France winger Maghnes Akliouche has reportedly arrived from Monaco in a deal beIN Sports value at around €50m, while goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni has joined from AC Milan. That continuity is deliberate: Luis Enrique has a system that works and a group that believes in it.

The road ahead

It starts fast. Paris face Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg on 12 August, the first trophy on offer this term, before the Ligue 1 defence begins. Then comes the competition that defines this era — the Champions League, where Paris will chase a feat only the great sides of history have managed.

There are questions, too. Bradley Barcola’s future is unresolved amid reported interest from Liverpool, and how Luis Enrique manages a forward line that keeps growing will shape the campaign. Depth is a luxury; it can also be a selection headache.

But the bar could not be clearer. Anything less than another deep European run, with the Ligue 1 title defended, would count as a step back. For a club that once treated the Champions League as an obsession and now treats it as an expectation, that is the strangest kind of progress — and the reason this looks like the most fascinating PSG season in years.
